NINEDTP

In July 2023, and building on my experience with DurhamARCTIC, I became Director of the Northern Ireland / Northeast England Doctoral Training Programme (NINEDTP), on a 50% secondment from my regular post(s) at Durham University.

NINEDTP is funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council to support postgraduate training in the social sciences in five universities in northeast England (Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland, and Teesside) as well as two in Northern Ireland (Queen’s Belfast and Ulster). Each year we bring in around 55 new, fully-funded PhD students, so that at any given time we are supporting somewhere between 150 and 200 students, and we also support 6 one-year postdoctoral researcher positions. In addition to providing financial support, the DTP organises training and professional development, facilitates linkages with non-academic partners, and fosters an inter-university academic community that fosters the exchange of ideas and social support.
