From August 1997 through September 2013, my primary appointment was at Florida State University, where I was a professor in the Department of Geography. My roles in the Department of Geography also included serving as a member of the Executive Committee and Director of Graduate Studies.
Beyond the Department of Geography, at Florida State I served as co-director of the Inter-American Seas Research Consortium, assistant director of the Center for Environmental Media Production & Research, director of the Social Science & Public Affairs Living-Learning Community, and membership chair of the FSU Chapter of the United Faculty of Florida. Additional roles in university governance included being a member of the Faculty Senate, serving as a longterm member of its Undergraduate Policy Committee, and chairing the Salary Plan for Professors committee that allocated over $500,000 in recurring raises to senior full professors. I also served on the College of Social Science & Public Policy’s Policy & Academic Affairs and Promotion & Tenure Committees.
