- ‘Steering between Scylla and Charybdis’, in which I consider the Territorial Sea designation as an option for resolving the ongoing dispute over the Northwest Passage, has been published in the February 2014 issue of Ocean Development & International Law. In a previous post I linked to my presentation of this paper at the Arctic Circle conference in Reykjavik.
- I also received my copy of Water Worlds: Human Geographies of the Ocean, edited by Jon Anderson and Kimberley Peters. This is the first ever edited volume of human geographic scholarship on the ocean and it covers a wide range of perspectives. I’ve written the book’s Foreword (‘On Thalassography’) and one of the chapters (‘Mediterranean Metaphors’). I highly recommend the book to anyone interested in ocean geography.
- And finally, although I haven’t yet received my copy of the book, I’ve been informed that Richard Powell and Klaus Dodds‘ edited volume Polar Geopolitics? Knowledges, Resources and Legal Regimes has also been published this week. My chapter in this book, ‘Maintaining Hegemony at a Distance’, is on US Arctic policy.
